Dear friends and family01.gif,

Am pleased to bring you an update on our soup kitchen distribution.

Blue Stars Dormitory on 13 July 2011

In addition to our dedicated volunteers, our soup kitchen welcomed 5 staff from the Standard Chartered Bank. We were told that every staff in SCB has to "clock up" 3 days of community work in a year as part of their CSR program and our soup kitchen was delighted to have them in our team. It was a timely boost to our manpower as we had to cook, in addition to the sambar and rice, 450 eggs (Thanks Kwai Fong, for your sponsorship10.gif).

We served a total 369 bowls of Sambar with rice, 100 packets of chicken rice plus 120 canned drinks, 100 packets of bread (aka "riot loti"..thanks to Andrew’s donation), 450 hard-boiled eggs and distributed 500 coffee sachets and 410 bananas.

Trinity Soup Kitchen – 29 June 2011 Distribution

Dear friends and family01.gif,

Am pleased to bring you an update on our soup kitchen distribution.

Blue Stars Dormitory on 29 June 2011

Lesson from "The Missing Giant Wok" – For the past three years, our kitchen team had been using the giant wok to fry the sambar paste. Visualize this: Our chef will fry the curry leaves; add cooking oil (4 kilos), chopped garlic (3 kilos) and onions (5.6kilos). Next, add sambar powder (3 kilos) to the mix, followed by tamarind juice (another 3 kilos); the mixture is now thick and heavy; for the next 30 minutes, the mixture has to be stir fried and it is at this point that our volunteers will form a "relay" team in front of the giant wok – taking over to relief one another from the laborious task.
With the giant work missing from the kitchen, we resorted to using a mini wok ..and what a gem03.gif!! With a smaller wok, we prepared the paste in 2 separate rounds and yes, what a breeeeeze04.gif!! No more strained muscles04.gif!!

The distribution in the evening went well. We served a total 389 bowls of Sambar with rice, 100 packets of chicken rice plus 120 canned drinks (sponsored by from Shawyn, our donor) and distributed 500 tea sachets and 410 bananas.
Our next soup kitchen will be held this Wed, 13 July 2011.

Trinity Soup Kitchen – 4 May 2011 Distribution & Schedule for June 2011

Dear friends and family01.gif,
Here’s an update on our last soup kitchen distribution.

Blue Stars Dormitory on 4 May 2011

With a couple of our volunteers away on holiday, our manpower on 4 May was lean but "mean"04.gif! Everyone was on an "OT" mode to complete the tasks at hand. While the "flavour of the day" was GE 2011, the kitchen team was focused on making our signature Sambar a delight 04.gif and the team was ultra delighted to have Dennis back to "sweat it out" in the sauna-like kitchen03.gif.

The distribution in the evening went well. A migrant worker came forward and said "Thank you…after a long and tiring day, it’s nice to come back to the dorm and have a nice Sambar meal"…it was a simple but heartwarming affirmation…cheers to all volunteers for your labour of love 10.gif. We served a total 403 bowls of hot Sambar with rice, 100 packets of chicken rice and distributed 500 tea sachets and 409 apples.

An expenditure summary, updated with donations received to-date, is attached.

Our next soup kitchen will be held next Wed, 18 May 11.

Dear friends and family, Am pleased to bring you an update on our soup kitchen distribution.

Blue Stars Dormitory on 20 April 2011

April 20th was named the super-duper-fast-day03.gif! From preparation to distribution, every task was completed way ahead of scheduled time – in under 2 hours, cutting crew chopped up all 100kilos of vegetables; cooking team, armed with a brand new GIANT pot, prepared the Sambar curry and rice in under 4 hours; in the evening, our distribution team was just as surprised when the last bowl of the Sambar delight 09.gif was served at 7pm. OOO LA LA04.gif!!

It was International Women’s Day on 8 Mar 11 and our dedicated volunteers continued their celebration on 9 Mar 11 with an "all-gals kitchen"03.gif- Teresa, Ina, Kwai Fong, Iris, Shanti & Vanessa – jived in and out of the kitchen and voila 04.gif…sambar & rice plus 450 eggs cooked and packed – all ready by 5pm!
